Door Dash…..Is it possible to work while traveling full time in a RV?

Doordash, you may have heard about it, maybe seen a advertisement or even used it to order food . My question is , is it a possible option to earn money while full time traveling?

First off if you havn’t heard Doordash is a food delivery service. To work for Doordash is pretty easy ! Requirements are …

  • You must be 18 years or older.
  • Have access to a vehicle or bicycle.
  • Any car, truck, motorcycle, or scooter.
  • Own an iPhone or Android smartphone.
  • Driver’s license with at least one year of driving experience.
  • Valid insurance — name on policy.
  • Complete an orientation online or in person.

Doordash will run a background check on you no credit check just a background check. They will also send you a copy of that report! If you pass the background check you will become a independent contractor with Doordash so you will have to fill out a 1099 and will have to pay your own taxes and keep track of milage for deductions. I am not a expert on this subject and highly recommend you contact a tax professional .

Once you pass the background check they will send you a red hot bag as well as a red card. The red card is a prepaid visa card that you will use to pay for food if needed. I received my bag within a week and I was able to send it general delivery. When you receive your card and bag all that is left to do is activate your card and you are ready to go dashing!!

I am not going to get into the hows of dashing yet . I would rather talk about who this job is good for and the pros and cons of this type of jobs while traveling. It is obvious that you are not going to be doing food deliveries in a motorhome. however if you have a tow car , van , a scooter or motorcycle hell even a electric bike in some places you can doordash! You are gonna want to be pretty close to a semi large town that doordash is currently working in. I know people who will stealth camp in their van in the city for a few days to work then go out to the forest for a few days and repeat!! The bigger the city the more money to be made. my first few times dashing was not in a very busy town so I didn’t make big bucks however I did make 10.00 a hr. and I liked that it was a nice pace for the first few times out! I believe the situation will vary as you travel.

Now lets talk about traveling while working with doordash. Unfortunatly doordash does not move with you so, you do have to contact support in order to have your area changed! I had to change my location from Florida to Washington in order to start dashing. and when I move locations I will have to contact dd again to let them change it. It was a painless procedure and they responded pretty quickly ( less than 2 hrs ) I will not be able to doordash everywhere I camp but will whenever I can. leave a comment below if you are interested in doordashing. I can give you a referral code which will give you a bonus as well as myself!!

I will continue to share tips and pointers as I figure them out!!

Safe travels everyone!

  1. Hi, I know this post is super old, over a year! But I really would like to know how this went or is going for you? I am thinking about doing something like this. I understand you have to put in a change request for each new city. My main concern is how long it takes to process the request. Thank you!

    1. Totally doable and never took more than a hr or two to change locations ! I have been out of a workable area the last few mths ! But it has almost always worked well ! Good luck !

  2. I live in Phoenix AZ and while visiting family in Nevada and California I was able to easily change my location on the app, I did not have to call support.
